Between the eighteenth and the early twentieth century these landscapes of the Sierra de Bernia were an ideal hiding place for highwaymen and fugitives from the law. The people of the villages feared the observers ; but some were considered heroes who robbed the rich to give to the poor. The wonderful villages of the Sierra de Bernia are still witnesses to these legends. Some of the legends are passed from generation to generation.
