The Sierra de Aitana with its 1558 metres, is the highest mountain of the Costa Blanca. It houses a vast variety of flora and fauna. From the Christian Reconquest to the expulsion of the Moors in 1609, the villages of the Sierra de Aitana were a refuge for thousands of Muslims who , even though forced to convert to Christianity , lived in peace for many years. Following their expulsion from Spain they left behind a lasting legacy in these villages.
